Following a successful 2016 with their ‘Latest Debut’ tour, The Ale Marys are back with new material for what is now their twentieth year together. They tell us that some of those years were spent helping Dave get his GCSEs!
The Ale Marys are, by their own admission, a band built on longterm relationships. Gerry and Ani McNeice – familiar faces on the
live sound scene with their award-winning PA team ‘Wee Dog Sound’ – have spent a lifetime together making music, since they were in their teens. Bass player Nick Downes has worked with Gerry since 1985 and although Berni Gilmore is not The Ale Marys original drummer he’s been known to the others since the late 1970s. Even the relative ‘newbie’ Dave Turner has clocked up seven years!
Their EP, ‘There’s Something about Marys’ sold out its first run very quickly and they are now on the second batch. There are plans to record a full album later in 2017 and with three songwriters from very different musical backgrounds, it is likely that it will be a varied and eclectic collection of work.
Picking up plaudits from respected music industry professionals, festival and event organisers and peers alike, The Ale Marys jingly-jangly and sunny, ‘major key’ outlook on the things they experience are a welcome break in these gloomy times.
