The Volunteer Working Group (VWG) are a dynamic bunch of volunteers who meet every six weeks in Beverley to support the planning and organisation of the festival.

Areas in which the VWG get involved include the following:

Helping with sourcing sponsorship opportunities.

Developing accessibility at the festival.

Improving the festival's environmental efficiency.

Helping with local and regional promotional drives.

Distributing festival publicity.

Stuffing thousands of envelopes with brochures (yes, it is as exciting as that!)

The group meets in an informal setting, over a drink, and are invaluable to the festival's organisational team. The bring new ideas and masses of enthusiasm to the festival.

Will Richardson (organiser of the Teenage Cancer Trust music tent at the festival and a key VWG member) says:

"I wholeheartedly recommend any one with a little (or a lot) of time to spare to become involved in the Beverley Folk Festival as a Working Group Volunteer. I have been involved in the Festival for over 10 years , first as a steward and latterly as part of the volunteer working group and have enjoyed every minute! As a steward it was a great way to help out, see some wonderful musicians and meet like minded folk from all over the country and just have a good time!

Now I am able to dedicate more time leading up to to the Festival, I am a volunteer in the working group. Each year brings different challenges so being involved at the early stages of planning and working towards the creation of a wonderful musical weekend is a rewarding feeling. I have found that no matter what skills volunteers possess, they will have something to contribute to the team. They will always be made welcome, no matter how much time they have to spare.

When it is all over and I reflect on the effort and fun enjoyed by the whole team in preparing for the event I feel a great sense of achievement. Why don't you come along and see for yourself.... like I did........."
